Cross posting. Should or could?

  • I submitted a topic in the TSQL forum:

    http://www.sqlservercentral.com/forum/link.asp?TOPIC_ID=18848

That may have been better off in the performance forum. Should I re-post it there, or maybe a link to it?

Is there a way to put a topic thread into multiple forums?

  • I'm against cross-posting. Why? I may see the post and submit my response only to find that in another forum someone posted a similar solution and you provided more information on what you really wanted.

If a poster HAS to cross-post, I would suggest just posting the link to the original post and stating...Please go to this post. Or something like that.

Bottom line is that it's best if all the comments are in one place.

  • Thanks, I'll wait a couple/few days, and see if I get responses... if not, then maybe I'll put a link into the other forum.

  • I'm not a fan of cross-posting. You answer a question and then find that there is a much longer thread in another section of the forum. Pick your best choice and stay there.

  • Generally I think the originator should be aware in which category he is posting.

I don't know exactly if 'normal' users in this forum can move topics, but I do know that moderators can do so. So what about calling a moderator to move this thread to a more appropriate location?

Each forum category has an assigned moderator.

  • We don't like cross posting. I tend to delete the one I see second (or third). Makes things more confusing.

Honestly, most of our regular people use the "Active Threads" link at the top, so we see all new topics in an area. Therefore we will see all items. If there's an item that no one answers, please feel free to let us know (sjones@sqlservercentral.com, awarren@sqlservercentral.com) and we'll see what we can track down.
