Creating new instance of sql server 2005

  • Hi guys, i have been trying to install sql server 2005 enterprise edition on a win xp pro notebook.......

but somehow it's not detecting the default instance of a previously installed sql 2000.

I then uninstalled sql 2005, with the intent of adding a new name instance on a fresh install but i don't see an option that allows me to do that.

any help will be greatly appreciated :):)

    thx

  • Hi,

SQL 2005 Enterprise edition is not supported in Win XP machines. You can refer the below link for supported operating systems.

Hardware and Software Requirements for Installing SQL Server 2005

  • If you really need Enterprise on XP, use a VM. The software is free and you can set up a VM with W2K3 and SS2K5 Enterprise.

Otherwise use Developer edition of SS2K5. It has all the features of Enterprise.

  • Thanks guys, i opted to use Developers edition instead.
