Hi
We have a 30Gb production database for which we have a duplicate test database, periodically we copy the production to live to refresh the test system. The problem is the time this takes to backup and restore is very long. We now use detach files copy and reattach - the problem all the users cannot login when the production database is reattached, the users have to be deleted and readded to the database.
Is there a better, safer and faster way of doing this?

Detaching and reattaching files sounds very disruptive to your production users. I would go with an option that has little or no disruption.
Do you do your backup/copy/restore manually? If so, have you considered scheduling the activities to happen overnight. I'm assuming you do a backup anyway, so the additional processing time is the copy and restore.
Cheers,
