Im creating my time dimension and I am adding a user defined hierarchy because Im told this is the best way of doing it (Rather than just creating the hierarchies)
I have only created a couple of levels so far: Attribute Relationships
TimeID……..Week…..Month….Standard Year
Properties
Standard Year - name Column = Standard Year
Key
Standard year
Month
Week
TimeID
Month - name Column = Month
Key
Month
Week
TimeID
Week - name Column = Week
Key
Week
TimeID
Example data for this
Standard YearMonthWeekTimeID
1987January119870101
1987January119870102
1987January119870103
1987January219870104
1987January219870105
1987January219870106
It processes fine but when Igot to browser and look at, for example standard year I just seee.
1987
1987
1987
1987
1987
1987
…… etc
Ive already gone thoughlots of pain with this before and I thought I knew how to beat it. The UDF low to high level and the keys as above.
Any help would be really appreciated.
Thanks
Debbie

First check your key. Time Dimensions are a pain because of the repeating values in each year, ie you have a month 1 , a day 1, etc in 2010, 2011, 2012, etc. Depending on your date dimension table and you hierarchy, you may need the key to include additional columns.

Hi there,
Ive managed to get it working but it took some going. I started small and worked my way up. It was indeed the keys
I just needed the key year in year, Then in Term I had to have
Year
Term so that Term becomes unique with the year key above it.
I have created a blog whilst working on it http://my.opera.com/DebzE/blog/2012/01/24/analysis-services-dimensions-with-user-defined-hierarchies-and-keys
Now Im trying to add a parent child dimension which is a nightmare. It fails before I have even created any hierarchies.
