Hi,
The drive is not mapped to the sql server at all. I checked to make sure and the linked server allows UNC's. i will try sharing the D drive and calling to drive name and see it this takes care of the problem.

Hi,
ok tried with D drive and still same issue, I did login in from my client to the server witht he SA account and i was successful in runnign the following command agianst the Linkedserver, which agian I cannot do with my login account.
Select * from OPENQUERY(AIRPERSONNEL, 'Select * from [Sheet1$]')

Again, just to understand you completely...
You mapped to the D: drive the path you had in the linked server path. Then you changed the linked server path to map to this drive. If this is the case, what happens when you log into the server... Is the drive still mapped to the D: drive?

ok, when you say mapped, I take it you mean setting up a mapped drive, this I did not do on the server. I just changed the shared from autod to the d drive and put it into the connection.

I can't understand exactly what you are doing, but I know for a fact if you physically map the drive you should not have issues. As I have done this several times.
