create a table with a variable name!

  • actually i wanna create an asp hit counter that creates a table for each page that i use the counter in it, and save the details of the hit such as number of hits in a special date,in the database created.so i want it to create a table in my db that gets the name that comes from the value of a variable.

  • You will need to use some form of dynamic SQL...

    DECLARE @TableName SYSNAME

    SET @TableName = 'sometablename'

EXEC ('CREATE TABLE '+@TableName+' put rest of create here')

I guess I'm really worried about why you need to create a dynamic hit table... what's wrong with just writing the sitename or page into an existing hit table?

RBAR is pronounced "ree-bar" and is a "Modenism" for Row-By-Agonizing-Row.
First step towards the paradigm shift of writing Set Based code:
________Stop thinking about what you want to do to a ROW... think, instead, of what you want to do to a COLUMN.

Change is inevitable... Change for the better is not.
