@Gail, what else to look for?

Can't speak for Gail but my suggestion would be... a small amount of money to at least quadruple memory or spend some time fixing unnecessarily resource intensive code. 32GB is pretty small for a 12 processor box running on 64 bit technology.

It always gets me when I see Enterprise Edition SQL Server running on such specs ...

Agreed... Lamborghini with a hamster wheel and a half starved hamster for a motor. 😛

RBAR is pronounced "ree-bar" and is a "Modenism" for Row-By-Agonizing-Row.
First step towards the paradigm shift of writing Set Based code:
________Stop thinking about what you want to do to a ROW... think, instead, of what you want to do to a COLUMN.

Change is inevitable... Change for the better is not.

  • I hear you but my problem is that I did mention to powers that be but it has fallen to deaf ears, I have to make mini cooper pull a 20 ton truck

I have requested more RAM up to 64GB since that being a limitation for a VM:angry:

It's better to fail while trying, rather than fail without trying!!!

  • Would be great to hear what would be the best specs

That would be my suggestion too.

My desktop (gaming machine, writing and SQL dev) has 32 GB of memory.

And what VM has a guest limit of 64GB of memory?

Uh, if your VM software DOES have that limit, it is time to change the VM software!!! Maybe your (rather silly, IMHO) IT staff have set that limit for some (very silly) reason?!? :hehe:

That might be the limitation of SQL Server 2008 Standard Edition but I've never heard of a VM with such a limit. If true, then I'm with the others... time to get a new VM.

Of course, you're being limited by the limited thinking of the people with the purse strings. I've been there (even had to resort to dumpster diving in the past to dig out spare parts) and I feel for you.
