Copying replicated database

  • Good morning all,

We have a transactional replicated database that we are planning to take offline, copy the datafile to a pen drive and then put the database back online.

My question is how would this effect the replication sync, I mean in theory it should just pick it back up when the database comes back online, correct?

Any post on this topic would be of great help

    Thanks in advance.

  • Why aren't you just doing a backup and restore?

You shouldn't have issues with the original database, but the database on the pen drive will be marked as being replicated. This has potential problems if you want to use it, because you may not be able to truncate the transaction log.

    Cheers

Nothing in life is ever so complicated that with a little work it can't be made more complicated.

  • Obviously it effects the replication instead just take backup online.

  • Morning guys,

the original plan was do to a backup ONLY and then for someone else to do a restore. However the other day this plan came about for some reason and it got me thinking that if I break replication from Server A to Server B, when I bring Server A back online would the replication sync ok or would I have to rebuild it.
