Copying database backup to another server

  • All,

Thanks for your suggestions. It was probably a network issue. I copied the backup from our training machine in the same physical location as the development server. That finished in about 4 hours - same amount of data. Some of the suggestions I got from the network folks here are - a push is faster than a pull, so push from the production machine to the development machine; and - initiating the robocopy command from the console on the development machine (rather than my logging in via remote desktop) was found to be faster.

    Thanks,

    VP

  • Use IZArc for compression maybe. One more I would like to suggest is if you copy over the network then it would take 40 more hours as you mentioned. Why not connect a USB to the remote server and the have it off loaded to the new dev environment, its faster that way aint it..

    Thanks!!
