Copying Data From One SQL Server to Another via Internet

  • I have two SQL servers (one in Florida and the other in NY).  They both contain the same database but I would like to update the other server either via FTP or via Internet.  Right now I'm exporting the tables into text files and compressing them.  I send them via FTP but that process is slow and not reliable. What are the pros and cons of using link server over the internet.  I'm sure I would have to open the firewall up but doesn't open risk to hackers?

  • Which version of SQL Server are you using?  If you are using SQL2000 have you looked at the Copy SQL Server Objects task?  Does your office use a WAN?
