Copy the .dtsx file to backup an SSIS package?

  • Can a person simply copy the .dtsx file to a separate directory that gets backed up by the system administrator each night? the original SSIS package, or are there additional associated files that need to get copied?)

Or, is there a better idea for backing up SSIS packages, so that their contents are preserved?

    Thanks,

    Randy

  • you only need to back up the .dtsx file, there are no associated files included.

another option is to deploy the packages to the msdb, where the packages will be included in the backup of that database

Life: it twists and turns like a twisty turny thing

  • As mentioned, only the dtsx is important. However, backing on the sln file and others in the folder is a good idea because you don't have to recreate the solution. Not the end of the world though.

I disagree with the MSDB option though. I am starting a "no MSDB campaign" but that's a different topic 🙂

Cheers,CrispinI can't die, there are too many people who still have to meet me!It's not a bug, SQL just misunderstood me!

  • Thanks for the responses, much appreciated.
