Copy Database Wizard - "Access to the path 'x' is denied."

  • I'm trying to use the copy database wizard and it is failing on the final step, saying in the event log that access to my share folder path is denied.

    I read somewhere that I need to have sysadmin fixed privilege on both servers and I think I do? Is there a specific Login that I need to create and give it sysadmin privilege? I've tried giving it to NT AUTHORITY\SYSTEM because that is the user it is under in the event log. I also tried giving the logins that I set to connect to source and destination in the Copy Database Wizard sysadmin. But no luck so far, its still giving me this error.

    I wonder if I set up my shared folder correctly? All I did was make data folder that the database files are in on the source server into a share folder and gave permission to everyone.

    Anyway, its giving me this error. Can anyone help?

    gave permission to everyone.

    your talking share permissions here right?

    What "security" permissions did you set?

  • Security permissions as in, not share permissions but permission on the folder itself?

    I actually just tested it by giving everyone all permissions, tried it, it didn't work, then I removed it. I think I did, as far as I remember.

    I already got done what I needed to do though. I just did the backup / restore method. So it isn't a crises. But it would be nice to figure out what went wrong.

  • when you share a folder in windows you have a share tab and a security tab. Share permissions and security permissions are different and need to be configured correctly otherwise users wont get access despite giving everyone full control on the share permissions. Where share and ntfs permissions combine the most restrictive applies

    i.e. share permissions = everyone full control

    security permissions = users Read only

    result = users Read Only
