And more questions....Have you checked the port the instance is listening on ?
- even though it is the default instance, it could be on a port other than 1433.
Have you tried connecting to it using the name and port ? e.g. MYSERVER,1433
How does nslookup respond? nslookup MYSERVER
UDP Port 1434 - Open and Listening (verified using PortQry.exe) <Performed port query again to be sure.
Used servername,1434 and connection times out.
nslookup servername returned correct IP and FQDN from DNS Server.

Do you have any DNS Suffixes (in the DNS tab of Advanced TCP/IP settings) on the nic card?
