Connectivity Issues on SQL Server

  • I wanted to ask why Shared Memory Protocol is disable on SQL Server 2000 Enterprise, the OS is Windows 2003 x 64. I wanted to find this out as we are deploying an application, Guardium basically it captures traffic either with TCP\IP (remotely) and it uses shared memory protocol (locally).

I tried it out on a sandbox database cluster and after enabling shared memory protocol, I lost connectivity on the sql instance.

    Thanks,

    Oliver

  • Not supported:

The virtual server isn't local, it's shared among the nodes.

  • Hi Steve,

Thanks for the reply, I looked at the article but this implies running SQL 2005 but this apply to all clusters even for SQL 2000, if it is the case then the vendor will have to do some rewrite of their

application, normally I would not even think twice about this but it is an Audit request in our company to look at database security holes.

    Thanks,

    Oliver
