connection broken

  • We are experiencing a problem with our applications dropping connections after a period of inactivity. This also occurs within Enterprise Manager and you have to refresh to see objects like tables and stored procs.

    It happens in Query Analyzer and here is the message:

    [Microsoft][ODBC SQL Server Driver][DBNETLIB]ConnectionCheckForData (CheckforData()).

    [Microsoft][ODBC SQL Server Driver][DBNETLIB]General network error. Check your network documentation.

    Connection Broken

    This problem didn't occur before we upgraded from NT4 to Win2K but that might not be the problem.

    I am not finding anything good in MS KB or BOL.

    Does anybody have an insight?

    Thanks for any help.

  • My thought process goes like this.  Since you upgraded your OS you may want to install a current version of MDAC on the clients and/or upgrade client components (fixes, or patches)

  • I've also been having this problem.  Seems to happen off an on.  There is no specific pattern to it...  The same query can work one day and not the next.  I updated my mdac on my machine, and it didn't help.

    Does it need to be the mdac on the server as well?
