What's the negative side of configuring Sql server for 'remote access'. Any security issue to be concerned about?
Thanks, ej

If you are going through a secure vpn into a secure network with encryption then nothing really. I've been a DBA for 20+ years and had VPN via the internet for support
Besides, locks were only meant to keep honest people out !

Thanks for your reply Rudi. I'm not quite sure, I understand what you mean by "into a secure network with encryption". Right now I only want to configure the Sql Server for remote access so I can create a "pull" subscription from another machine running an MSDE instance, and enable it on the publisher (which is the Sql server that needs to be configured). I was able to create the subscription, but I could not enable it on the Publisher, and I got stuck there.
Later on we are planning on using Replication over the Internet, and logging through vpn seems to be the solution.

"into a secure network with encryption" ... I mean your network has a firewall, a DMZ, another firewall and then your SQL servers and you are accessing it via a VPN tunnel. As for replication over the internet, well, it sounds kind of iffy to me. If youe replicatin volume is low it should work btu I really do not have any experience with this.
