Hi,
I ran into some issues while configuring SQL mail. I have the mail profile setup and it can be selected from the SQL Mail Configuration dialog box drop down under "support and services" in enterprise manager, however, the profile file name is not visible in SQL Server Agent properties dialog box.
Any help is appreciated.
Thanks,

Profiles are login specific.
I'm willing to bet that the profile was not created while logged into the box AS the user that the SQL Server AND SQL Agent use.
Also, if they don't login as users, you will need to change that.. And they need to use the same account due to the way MAPI works, I don't believe you can be using two MAPI profiles on the same machine at the same time. This used to be a problem and I have not heard of any fixes..

Elliot thanks for the response. I actaully am doing exactly that. I have configured SQL mail in the past but for the love of me I can't figure out what is wrong. Below are the steps I've taken:
1) I added a local admin account to run the DB and Agent services
2) Started both services with said account
3) Logged in the box with the service account that runs both services
4) Installed outlook under that service account that runs the SQL services
5) Setup the profile...
and as I explained in my original post that profile name is in the drop down of the SQL Mail config dialox but the Agent properties for mail is gray out.

Hmm..
Maybe stop and restart the agent?
Because the steps you showed sound right..

Elliot I think the issue is with outlook. I was able to get the profile to show in the "mail profile" drop down on SQL Agent properties dialog page. When I click Test I get the message "Successfully started (and stopped) a mail session with this profile". However when I go to the Operators page and test I get the "message was sent successfully" but the test mail never gets deliver to my inbox. I am not sure while....

Is outlook connected to Exchange? I've had what you are describing happen when I was using only POP3/SMTP but never Exchange.

Now its working. I basically dropped the profile, reinstalled outlook and added a new profile.
Thanks for your help.
