Conditional JOIN (best way to filter a report?)

  Hi all,

  I posted my question in the "Strategies" forum 10 days ago but it doesn't look like its a highly visited forum (as I've had no answers yet).

  Since I'm guessing the answer to my question is some simple(?) bit of T-SQL that I'm not yet aware of (some sort of "conditional JOIN") I hope you'll forgive me if I post in the T-SQL forum as well.

  So please have a look at this problem (especially if you know how to "conditionally JOIN"). Thanks!

  Most people that answer actually see the changed threads, rather than checking all forums, so cross posting doesn't really help.
