Does SQL Server 2000 provide any options for compressing stored data?

SQL server and using compressed data is not a good idea. Granted you can use Windows compression to manage your disk space HOWEVER, everytime the system needs to access the system it will uncompress, change data, recompress..... Lots of overhead...

You might want to try SQLLiteSpeed which stores backups compressed.
