communication between distributor and publisher

    Hi,

    can any body tell how exactly communication happens between distributor and publisher when we give snapshot or when we run snapshot agent.

    actually i assumed when we run snapshot agent only communication happen from publisher to distributor to pick the schema and data ,but i am getting error at distributor end while running the snapshot agen 'could not able to connect publisher' since distributor is in extranet and publisher is in corpnet.

    it looks distributor also connects to publisher while giving the snapshot or running the snapshot agent,do we need two way communication?

    Yes, publisher and distributor exchange data, then distributor and subscriber.

    Hi,

    Steve is absolutely right, Replication works on Acquire,Manipulate and Write system.

    The Snapshot agent reads all the articles of the publication and writes it to Snapshot Files which are stored in Snapshot Folder, this resides in Distributor.Then Distributor Agent which also resides in Distributor send the data to Subscription.
