Hi Steve,
I couldn't find where to register to the event you mentioned. I could not find any link to RSVP. Could you send one to me?
Thanks
Filipe

Unfortunately my current employer doesn't have funds for travel and conferences, so I am unable to attend events like this. We can't even attend meetings we can drive to.
Still, in the past, my experience has been similar. That is not to say I do not learn a lot in a class or session, but that I also learn things outside of those settings that is frequently more targeted and more beneficial. I once attended a class that was given by someone from Developmentor. I believe it was Tim Ewald. Anyway, the speaker was brilliant. He taught the class in VB, Visual C++ and Java concurrently. He wrote examples as we covered material, he did not open pre-written files once. We flew through material, got an in depth look at things in multiple languages, and ended up with the best class experience I have ever had. We went to dinner with a group after the class, and I learned even more in that setting than I did in class. Those of us who went to dinner left the other class members behind the next day in a matter of minutes.
I have had other similar experiences, but I use this one as it points out that even the best instructor (and I believe he definitely fit that category) can teach far more outside of a structured class than it is possible to teach in class. Whether that be at dinner, lunch, a bar, of just a few minutes between sessions, I have found those times to always be excellent opportunities.

I hope a bunch of people stop you. Are you going to wear a hawaiian shirt and a Kilt?
