Collation Changes

  • What do i need to select during sql2k5 installation for the collation Latin1_General_CI_AS.

  • If you are in the US that is the default collation the only exception is SSRS and SharePoint databases use a different collation by design from Microsoft.

  • set it to default at installation, whatever is selected.normally it would be SQL_Latin1_General_CP1_CI_AS.

but remember, there are other products like reporting services DB and sharepoint, whcih might use diff collations, so do not be alarmed. (Just a reminder)

  • But i want Latin1_General_CI_AS which is not a default.

I already have SQL_Latin1_General_CP1_CI_AS., that is the reason why i am trying to re install to change it to Latin1_General_CI_AS

  • I think it may have been depreciated because I could not find it from my collation drop down and I think you must know both are for English.

  • but it gives a collation conflict error still if you are assuming they both are same

  • Here is the way to verify what you can use because when I try to create a new database in XP SP2 I can access the collation you are looking for and what you have now is not available, but if I try to change an existing database all I can get is the collation you don't want. So right click in management studio and try to create a new database then options and go to collation drop down there you will see all you can use, now that is not to say you cannot use another collation using code.

    Kind regards,
