Hi all
I am trying to work out if it is ok to install an antivirus product onto my Windows 2003 SQL Cluster.
According to Symantec I can:
but Microsoft don't seem too keen on the idea:

Has anyone managed to install antivirus onto a cluster with no problems or is it best just to leave my servers as they are?
Thanks
Kristi

I for one hate the idea of putting anti-virus software on a SQL Cluster, sure it's possible but if you have your network security configured properly then the SQL boxes will be adequately protected, if not then you're just asking for trouble

We have AV on ALL of our SQL Servers without any problems. A few are WIn2003 as well. I simply exclude the *.MDF *.LDF, *.NDF sql server data files.

that's one way of doing it, but as a general rule, especially in production systems I don't like AV software being there, if nothing else then its going to consume some resources that I want to leave for SQL.
Admittedly most of our systems are web facing which means there's no direct way through to the sql server without going through the web boxes first (they're all AV protected).

I have av on w2k and w2003 clusters. The av only scans the local disks on the nodes.
