Mahommed can you supply more info on the set up you were using?

What hypervisor software were you using?

How much RAM on the Windows 7 host?

what version Windows 7 you using?

Perry, I don't remember exactly. I will try configuring once again and revert to forum.

  • I followed the tips on sqltip articles and managed to setup 2 vm on win2k8 to fail over. Perry, can you please mail me your guide as I will be going to production shortly.

    Thanks

  • Perry,

I followed the exact same steps as in your document and I am getting the following error where I install FreeNAS .When I ping Host from the VM.

    "no route to host"

I tried different options and also google'd but none helped. I am using SUN Virtual Box though.

    Could you please suggest?

    Thanks,

    Suri

Need a bit more info on the setup, you're not using Freenas for the virtual storage is that correct?

which host OS and what version VMWare server are you using

  • My Host OS is Windows XP. I am running three VM's in all on my laptop. I am using Sun VirtualBox for the VM's Two have Server 2008 and the third one I have FreeNAS. I finished the installation of the FreeNAS. I also assigned the interface.

    The problem

When I try to ping my Laptop's IP Address from the FreeNAS VM or ping the IP Address of the FreeNAS VM from my Laptop I get the error no route to host or not found error correspondingly.

    I have use bridged networking.

I assumed their is a problem with my networking on the FreeNAS. I tried all that I could think of.

    Please suggest

I am running three VM's in all on my laptop.

    You should have 4 VMs

    NAS VM

    Domain Controller VM

    2 x Cluster nodes

So, you're not using VMWare Server as the hypervisor is that correct?

I'm not sure about Sun virtual box, never used it but how have you set up the virtual networks. The FreeNAS VM is designed to be on a segregated private virtual network labelled as iSCSI, the cluster nodes would also have a virtual NIC each connected to the same virtual network.

    You need the following

    Create 3 virtual networks

    Public (bridged or host only)

    iSCSI (internal only)

    Heartbeat (internal only)

➡ Domain Controller VM 1 NIC connected to public network

➡ FreeNAS VM with 1 NIC connected to iSCSI

➡ 2 x Cluster node VM with 3 NICs. One connected to public network, one connected to iSCSI and one connected to Heartbeat

I found this really helpful: http://www.mssqltips.com/tip.asp?tip=1687%5B/quote%5D

    That guide's good, but mine's better 😉

Can you post your guide as an attachment so that we can all look at/use it?

  • Hi UMG

It's to large to post as an attachment I can email to people as requested
