We have MS Clustering defined for a number of two node clusters.
What I would like to know is within the specific resources, what should the 'affect group' values really be as a recommendation?
To hopefully help clarify the question, the resources for a given cluster group included:-
IP Addr
Network Name
SQL Server
SQL Server Agent
Analysis Services
Drive (s)
Most of these are defined at install time or as a pre-requisite to SQL Server 2005 install. However, on the Cluster Administrator setting for each resource, there is a 'Restart' tick box and within that an optional 'Affect the group' tick box.
Logically for each of the above, they should all be set to 'Restart' on failure but which (if not all) should have the 'Affect the group' box ticked? i.e. Should a failure in SQL Server Agent manifest a failure of all the above from node 1 to node 2 on the cluster or should it just try to restart on node 1.
Can't find any documentation on this, so if anyone knows where to look that would be appreciated.
Thanks

since you mention SQLAgent I dont think that should affect the group in the event of it stopping as SQLAgent is not critical to an app functioning so why have it cause a failover and thus an outage in the app.

My implication was what should the setting be for all the various resources as a recommendation.
I agree SQLServerAgent if it fails should not 'affect the group'.
But in an attempt to be consistent across all our boxes it would be nice to use a recommended approach for all.

IMHO
IP Addr yes
Network Name yes
SQL Server yes
SQL Server Agent no
Analysis Services not 100% sure. perhaps, cluster set to retry 3 times anyway, yes?
Drive (s) yes
any other takers?
