Hi All,
We have Active Passive cluster for one of our Prd DB servers. And we know there is an issue with the NIC cards on one of the servers, which we are working on fixing soon. This causes SQL Server Service to restart automatically. It doesn't fail over when the NICs on Active are frozen. And they are back up in less than 2 mins but SQL Restarts right away without Failover to Passive. Below are some of the errors I see in Event Log.
Cluster resource 'IP Address 10.0.0.001' in clustered service or application 'Cluster Group' failed.
Cluster resource 'IP Address 10.0.0.003' in clustered service or application 'VPPRDT001' failed.
Cluster resource 'IP Address 10.0.00.004' in clustered service or application 'VPPRDS001' failed.
Health check for IP interface 'IP Address 10.0.00.002' failed (status is '1117'). Run the Validate a Configuration wizard to ensure that the network adapter is functioning properly.
Cluster network 'Heartbeat' is partitioned. Some attached failover cluster nodes cannot communicate with each other over the network. The failover cluster was not able to determine the location of the failure. Run the Validate a Configuration wizard to check your network configuration. If the condition persists, check for hardware or software errors related to the network adapter. Also check for failures in any other network components to which the node is connected such as hubs, switches, or bridges.
Apart from updating NICS/Firmware etc -- Do you suggest there is any other thing we should look at as far as SQL Clustering is concerned?

Failure of the public network will cause a failover of the sql server instance. You have a spare node so take the problem node out of sevice and repair the failing NIC!
