i am planing to install sql server 2012 on win 2012 servers physical servers, is it possible to install and configure on 1 server and just clone for multiple servers?

you can do this and will need to make use of certain sysprep tools to change key OS system IDs. Renaming the sql server computername is the easy part 😀

We have done that with VMWare literally hundreds of times and it works very well and saves lots of time.
I can't speak to what OS/Network/DNS/AD level stuff the HW team does before they hand the server off to me, but for renaming the SQL instance, see this article.
