Hi everyone. I'm hoping someone can help me here because I can't seem to find any recommendations for this topic.
We recently upgraded our servers to sp2. I am trying to get a maintenance plan in place for upgrades and just realized that none of our clients have been upgraded. We are all on 1399.
This is where I'm hoping some of you can help me here. What is the significance with regard to the client's instance and the server's instance? Should we (clients and servers) be on the same version and if we should, why? Is the decision based purely on bugs fixed or is it just good practice?
Any guidance here would be greatly appreciated.

We apply the service pack to upgrade our client tools to ensure we have the latest version. Some features are fixed in the newer versions and you can have problems where something works on the server but not on a client machine (GUI type problems rather than database problems)
