Let's say you treat your workspace like you treat your database. Would you leave your used napkins all over your desk, food wrappers stuffed in your drawers, food crumbs (and the accompanying rodent droppings) all over the floor? Would you leave it that way for the next guy who takes your job when you move on?
Now say you are the next guy who moves into that workspace. Does cleaning it up improve the company's bottom line? Probably not, but that doesn't mean you shouldn't do it.
Dealing with database mess is a lower priority, despite how much the stereotypical DBA may want to scrub it clean. But it does make the environment more stable and safe to change.
Be still, and know that I am God - Psalm 46:10
