    I do not really like this question or answer very much.  The question is pretty vague.  When the blob is under 1M storage in the database is usually faster but that is only one consideration of where to store LOB data.  What the LOB data consists of and how it is used in the application, the average size, if the Filestream location is accessible to all intended users may be more important than the raw performance.  What if the BLOB is greater than 2G, then you can only store it via the Filestream option unless you want spread it over multiple rows.  IMHO the question needs to be more specific.

    Thanks for the note. This is based on testing from MS and evaluating the feature. The idea here is to understand the impact of sizing, not determine exactly when you would or would not use this.
