Flat out, it depends. I get something from Jeff, Gail, Lynn, the usual suspects, I will review it and test it, but I'll generally assume it's right. I get something from other sources, I'll try to vet it, get second opinions, do a bit more research, and then review it and test it. I don't think I've ever simply copied & pasted code from online to my production system, ever.
BWAA-HAA!!! Actually, I assume all code I run across is wrong unless I really know the person who wrote it but everything else you mentioned is pretty much spot on.

If you come to SSC or other site just looking for a quick answer and are not prepared to test them yourself, you are setting yourself up for trouble.
It’s no different than writing code yourself. I have learned from many years of coding is that that I am quite capable of making mistakes, and no piece of my code should go live without complete testing. If I don’t trust my own code without testing, why would I trust code from an SSC forum post or article without testing?

I think Charles said it the best here... "Trust, but verify". If you trust the source (like Grant mentioned), then the verify process can be abbreviated. And if you don't understand the code, it should never be used until you do.
Thanks Wayne. I got it from Ronald Reagan who was quoting an old Russian saying. I agree with your statements. I get stuff all the time from Grant. Lynn, Jeff, and Joe too. Then there was a point that I was up In Joe Celko's face about something until somebody chimed in about how much they liked Joe's new book. Joe's book? He's published? :gulp: Wait a second. New book? That means more than one! O.M.G. Who is this guy that I just called out? Some times you fell like an idiot, some times you are. Then I started buying his books. I don't agree with everything in them though.
The other point is this: Grant, Lynn, Jeff, Joe, Steve, Brad, Phil, and even you. My boss does not know any of them. If I stick something in production and it craps none of you all get the angry phone call.
Even if I say it ... Well, especially if I say it, I expect you to test it yourself.
