one of our users - the rest don't have this problem - is having a real time with some 'shift' characters being translated as they are inserted to an MSDE2k database, via adodb.
the characters start off (in Word 2k) as ' , £, " etc and with the quote ones turn into †followed by various others. The £ sign becomes £
we've been through every possible setting, but cannot find an answer - the workround has ended up with a trigger to run a quick replace() on the affected fields.
Any thoughts or suggestions?

we had a similar problem when extracting data through an asp application. We thought it was something to do with the money data type and a problem with the code page/colaltion we had selected. Unfortunately we never got to the bottom of it and ended up with a work-around instead. I hope this helps you get a bit closer to a solution.
