Changing up instances on one sql08r2 server

  • I've been asked to change up an existing sql08r2 server and am unsure what the order should be. It currently has 2 instances dev and standard. The items are and I'm thinking the order should be:

Uninstall current developer edition (not being used)

Upgrade existing standard edition to developer edition

    Install new standard edition

Just unsure about files and file structure that will or won't be left behind after the uninstall. What are your thoughts?

There is an exception to every rule, except this one...

  • Use this link to reference edition upgrades.

You do realize that Developer Edition is only for a development environment, right? It's violating the licensing if you are putting it in production.

  • Yes, this is a developing environment - not production. That link doesn't really answer the question tho.

  • It sounds like your end result is just a dev instance and a standard instance, which is what you are starting with (unless I am misunderstanding).

Why don't you just move around your databases? Either way, ensure you back up all databases before doing this as well.
