Changing sql server default port caused reporting services to stop working

  • Hello all,

    I recenty changed my sql 2008 r2 dev edition (64 bit) default port from 1433 to a diferent 4 digit port no.Now after aliases etc i was able to connect properly to the db server however my reporting server which with the default port was woking fine simply stopped woking after i changed the sql server port.

    I tried the sql reporting configuration mgr, it connects properly to the db but the reporting pages just would not open and would give errors like

    "The report server cannot open a connection to the report server database. A connection to the database is required for all requests and processing. (rsReportServerDatabaseUnavailable) Get Online Help "

    "The report server cannot open a connection to the report server database. A connection to the database is required for all requests and processing. (rsReportServerDatabaseUnavailable) Login failed. The login is from an untrusted domain and cannot be used with Windows authentication. "

    The problems dissappeared after i changed the port back to 1433

    does RS need the new port to be mentioned anywhere else ?

    thanks in advance

  • you could try 2 things;

    1. under reporting Services Configuration manager, choose Database Setup and under the Server name, type in the port number is the standard SQL way, (local)\instance,5555

    2. via SQl Server Configuration manager, create an Alias that has the new port number assigned to a new named Alias.
