Server 2000 database using a built-in account in SQL Server. Soon, we
will be swapping this server out for another, which is running SQL Server 2005.
Would it be sufficient to just rename the old server something else
and name the new server the existing name (e.g., MachineA is the name
of the existing system, new system named MachineB. Rename MachineA to
MachineAOLD and rename MachineB to MachineA)? I know this will help
with the web server that is also accessing this database, but I have
ODBC and OLEDB connections all over the company. Would changing the
machine names in this manner be enough to allow the ODBC/OLEDB
connections to point to the new server?
No one answered my question on Usenet, so I decided to ask on SQL Server Central in this forum.

I think you should just refresh the linked tables in access and "ask for a new location".
This way you can point to the new server and fill out the correct credentials.
Also this way, access will perform all needed stuff internaly.
Should be a piece of cake.

Is that really necessary if the new server is getting the same name as the old one? There are hundreds of Access databases we have.

Maybe not.
We don't have that many access-apps linked to other engines.
I certainly didn't try that path.
