Good question thanks Steve. Learnt something although it may have helped had I assumed that the master key had already been created along with the certificate 'salarycert3'; I expected an answer that indicated an error, so chose the nearest available, silly me!! :blush:

OK, good question, but to change a symmetric key, you must open the key before changing. In none of the alternatives existed.

Thanks for leaving out a bunch of steps to get to the eventual solution (like creating the cert and opening the key). Forced me to do a bit more research.
There are no special teachers of virtue, because virtue is taught by the whole community.
