changing compatibility mode from 80 to 90 on the master DB

  • I have a Microsoft 2003 Server with SQL Server 2005 with service pack 2 on it. All our user databases are in compatibility mode 80. But also the Master DB is in compatibility mode 80 while the rest of the system databases are in 90. I think i have a good handle changing the compatibility mode of the users databases, but I'm wondering about the Master DB.

Do i need to change the master at all? If i do change it will have any problems?

    Thanks

  • I have changed the compatibility mode of the master database from 80 to 90 a few times with no problems, I am sure there are some new code features that wont work in the master database unless you do this.

An in place upgrade of SQL 2000 does not change the compatibility mode of the master database. I presume this is how you have ended up in this situation.
