a quick, spackle article. Setting different colors for tabs/connections.

Besides paying for a tool? SQL Prompt and SSMS Toolspack will both do this and worth the money. I tried using the built-in connection coloring, but when I used the "Query-Change Connection" menu item, the color did not change appropriately. That meant I could easily run queries against a Production connection thinking I was still using a Development connection.
While I could write a quick blurb on this, I'd have to ultimately recommend not trusting SSMS if you change the query connection within the same window.

besides paying for a tool. I'm looking for a short piece that shows how.
A summary/conclusion at the end can explain why a tool is better.

I could probably write this up, then. I remember being really excited about that feature when it was announced. Then I ran a query against production thinking it was my development environment and quickly looked for (and found) other options. 🙂

Thanks. Not looking for a long item, but a short explanation of why and show the steps to set up, say, 3 different colors.
If you want to show SSMSToolsPack or Prompt, that's fine.

Thanks. I will try to get something in today. Do I just submit through the Contributions Center and let you know that it's there?

Submit it. I see it in the list and check every day or two.

Submitted. I'm sure that you'll want to edit. Just let me know if I missed anything or if you need me to fix anything. I hope the images came through without any problems. They worked for me, but I know that's not always the case.

Will do, and thanks.

Steve, would it be possible to correct a technical error in my article? I posted that this feature became available with SSMS 2005. It actually became available with SSMS 2008 and the connection change bug was fixed with SSMS 2008 R2 SP1.

Edit it in the Contribution Center. Then resubmit.
