Change SQL Server Licence type

  • I have just installed SQL Server onto one of our servers. I chose an incorrect licence i.e Per Seat instead of Per processor. How can I cahange this? A prompt reply will be appreciated

  • Hi there,

    To the best of my knowledge the changing of licenses only works one way, basically you can go from per processor to per seat (once), but not vice versa.

    The usual way around this is to re-install SQL and this time choose the correct license model.

  • You have to edit the registry - Regedt, Hkey_Local_Machine, Software, Microsoft, Microsoft SQL Server, 80, MSSQLLicenseInfo, MSSQL8.00, Mode key. Change it to 1 and you get both options available again.
