SQL Server 7 Have not seen any documentation but read the following
select @@servername produces prod20
but database name and server name shows prod21
To rename
rename from Mycomputer properties
I did check and the computer name was the right name prod21.....
Reinstall software with an upgrade option(Do I need to?)
sp_dropserver 'prod20'
sp_addserver 'prod21' LOCAL
Need some confirmation to proceed
Do I need to reinstall anything or the addserver and drop server should do it

After rename your machine name, run setup and choose upgrade option.
The drop old name and add new name in SQL Server. Don't forget change the server name in sysjobs.

sp_configure 'allow updates', 1
reconfigure with override
use msdb
update sysjobs set originating_server = 'new server name' where originating_server = 'old server name'
sp_configure 'allow updates', 0
reconfigure with override

Sorry Went to sleep on this one.Though this looks like it could be a pretty obvious response ....
My originating_server from sysjobs shows local
Does the recommended solution above still hold , or do I need to replace old server name with 'local' ?
Thanks a lot
Mike
