I have a SQLServerV8 standard edition installation running on an 4xCPU box. I currently have 80 CAL’s . The growth of users has now reached a point where the powers that be(Bean Counters!), have decided that we should change the licensing model to a processor based one and only use 2 of the four CPU’s.
I have been advised that the only way to do this is to uninstall SQLServer and re-install and then restore the Master Database. Is this correct? I Could really do with someone telling me this is right or giving me alternatives, I have to do this at 22:00 GMT tonight (06-03-2006).
Thanks in advance

Hello Paul,
you can change it easily by editing a registry-key.
There is a REG_DWORD "Mode", there you can change the value to 2 and you have a processor licensing. (Found in "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Microsoft SQL Server\80\MSSQLLicenseINfo\MSSQL8.00\").
Then you can use the normal "SQL Server 200 Licensing Setup" in Control Panel to adopt the CPU-number. That was it, better then to reinstall...
