Certification on 2008 or 2012 now?

  • Dear All,

I am planning for my sql server certification. but i noticed that 2012 exam is about to arrive.

    so,

can i proceed to 70-433 then update to 2012

    or

should i go with 2012 exam directly.

    Appreciating your help

  • The upgrade will require you to have the ITP certification, not just the TS.

If you want the SQL 2008 certs, if you with SQL 2008 and see value, write the 2008 exams. If you're solely working on SQL 2012 and don't care about SQL 2008, write the 2012 certs

  • I agree with Gail on this.

The only reason I would certify on 2008 at this point would be if I am working with 2008 and there are no plans to be working on 2012 in the near future. That said, I would still look to at least upgrade to the 2012 certs at some point before the next release of SQL Server.

  • I asked myself the same question. Having just bought the 70-433 and 70-432 training kit. One back in February 2012 and one more last May.

I'm going to see this through(2008). It seems like the SQL Server 2012 training kits have been broken down into different areas of focus. One of the books, last time I checked, doesn't come out until September 22 of 2012.

Additionally, these new exams might be in Beta for a while right?

  • Nope, they're available now.

  • Where?

I just checked for the SQL Development books at BN.com and it says you must pre-order them.

  • The exams are available now.

The books are still pre-order since the exams just went live. Most authors are probably well into writing, but they'll need to sit in a live exam and get an idea of whether their writing properly captures the exam.

Okay thanks I didn't think of it like that.

  • If you decide to take one of the 2008 exams, try to go before June 30th and get a voucher to take a free 2012 exam: https://www.bsf01.com/creatives/prometric/Microsoft_TwoForOne/TwoForOne_Home.aspx
