CDC from other sources like Teradata

  • is it possible to use CDC in SQL 2008 R2 to pull the changes from Teradata? I dump database "as is" from Teradata to SQL Server every month using SSIS pkgs but i could pull only the changes that would save lot of time and system utilization.

  • Somebody correct me if I'm wrong, but I'm pretty sure CDC is for SQL Server as opposed to any kind of ODBC data source. You'd probably have to set something up in the Teradata environment to keep track of all changes and have the appropriate history tables in place, so that your SSIS packages could just grab stuff out the of the history tables on the Teradata side. CDC is part of SQL Server, so I don't see how it could really apply to an external, non SQL managed set of data, nor would it likely be as capable, assuming it's even possible.
