J.C. was actually kind (well for him kind ) not even a single rant. He is always worth reading as his knowledge base is HUGE but he does get a little short when A. People write post missing information B. When given an answer either do not try it before declaring its does not work or C. Redefine the question after getting an answer see A. above. I think next new years we should all resolve to be more like Joe.

Sorry Mike - got to disagree (about everyone striving to be like him - GOD FORBID!) - his style is waaaay too vituperative...
His knowledge base is awesome but then not everyone can be (or is) like him...a lot of people are here to learn and if they get decapitated everytime they ask something (albeit however stupid) - they'll be too afraid to ask the next time...
ps: but then I can see that you've been in "kill" mode the past few days so can understand why his methods of drilling knowledge into people would appeal to you..<;-)

Count me in! I don't approve those manners and I couldn't care less who you are we are all learning every day (even him!, well, that,I hope ) and nobody has the right to miss treat others just because have more experience or knowledge. In IT nobody KNOWs everything that's why we have specialties and in my opinon it looks really bad when some apprentice comes to you for help and you in an unfair battle smash the heck out of him.
Cheers,

Bien Venue Remi - I knew you couldn't keep away! If I were rich I'd bet all my money on this one fact!

At any rate, the answer to your question about what Noel did today started from this post actually - so now you know what you missed! Your hero chewing out several more unsuspecting victims!

Hmm I saw that post yesterday. I have to agree that he often crushes newbies when they post "wrong" questions in some unperfect way. However I have to side by Michael on this one. I know he still went past the line on this one but he went far less behond than his usual self. Looks like that's what he has to learn to become the ultimate sql helper and he seems to start being more gentle (if I may say so). I say we give him a little more time (and more warnings when needed) to learn a few soft skills, like all of us need time to master sql .

Btw it's hard to stay away from here, addictive as it his. Also the fact that I have 50 to 100 emails in the morning when I first check them makes this site hard to forget.

The purpose of this site it to give people a place to learn. No one said that the only things being taught here is SQL. Learning how to ask for assistance is as important as learning how to give it without giving offense. Given the number of different cultures and individual differences repersented here it is possible to both offend and be offended when that is not the intent of either party. This is especially true when someone is stressed out. (A day at the beach watching nature walk by fixes this for me and I highly recomment it to everyone )
Ray posted a link to an excellent site on etiqutte http://www.aspfaq.com/etiquette.asp?id=5006 which could or perhaps should be used as a gental reminder to both old hands and new members of the value of good manners and the purpose of the site.

Mike - there's an echo in here - I said something along the exact same lines in "Anything that is not SQL" yesterday - would you pl. be kind enough to copy & paste this there so that it gets a wider audience under context ?!
ps: "Nature walk by...."?!?! LOL

I will be happy to make the post. I have been a nature lover since I was 14. Such beautiful shapes, sizes, colors, all different and all lovely.

p.s. Sushila that was a great post you did on Anything not about SQL.
