I don't know about blogs. I think if they're not damaging someone, you'll be OK. I was told recently by a head hunter that I should not be on Facebook because the posts by friends can put one in a bad light. She did say that I should blog as long as it shows off my technical knowledge. She said to shy away from politics, religion, and controversial subjects.
If I'm going to get into trouble over stuff other people say, then I'm pretty much untouchable. It's not possible to cut all ties with people whose opinions or judgement are suspect and it's unreasonable to stay forever unplugged from social media.
I think it's very likely that topics worth blogging about are controversial by nature. If you are sticking so closely to undisputed facts that there cannot be controversy, then you could save everyone the trouble and just not bother. We generally stay pretty technical here, yet there is still lots of difference of opinion (i.e. controversy), and most of it starts with an 'innocent' little editorial.
My biggest problem with advice like this is that it's tantamount to creating artificial personalities. Like artificial intelligence they may be occasionally useful but they're ultimately pretty shallow.
