What exactly will you be doing, building and administrating the data warehouse, essentially a one-man show?
Managing a team of data warehouse developers?
The following books cover requirements gathering, conceptual and logical design, and day to day operations.

On a similar note do you have much experience with datawarehousing vs. OLTP?

In that case, you'll need to focus your study on requirements gathering, dimensional (star schema) data modeling, ETL for fact and SCD tables, and the data warehouse lifecycle in general. At this point don't waste your time reading about specific data warehousing tools and technology. Instead, understand data warehousing fundamentals before you start investing in 3rd party tools or hiring developers. Read the first two chapters of Kimball's data warehouse toolkit as soon as possible, and before your organization starts making decisions, encourage your IT executive management to read this as well.
