I am taking care of a data warehouse and process couples of cubes everyday. A new user report she can't manupulate data in an excel pivot table which connects to one of the cubes.
I had already add this user as a standalone user in the Role group on the SSMS but she still can't get anything.
The error message is like this:
"Initialization of the data source failed.
Check the database server or contact your database administrator. Make sure the external database is available, and then try the operation again. If you see this message again, create a new data source to connect to the database."
I don't have any problem to open this excel pivot table and neither do other users.
This pivot table was created by another user and email this pivot table to this end user.
Sorry for my English.
Thank you in advance

Perhaps this user is in a different network location that is preventing the access?

.
I check the Analysis Server Properties Security page but nobody is in there, even though they all have access to this pivot table.

Also check the data connection credentials and make sure that connector is providing good enough credentials;)

Finally solved this problem by installing these two components:
1. Microsoft Core XML Services (MSXML) 6.0
2. Microsoft SQL Server 2005 Analysis Services 9.0 OLE DB Provider

Does the user have OWC (Office Web Component) installed?

Thanks for the reply.
Oh, Not sure..
Now what is that? How can I install that?
But, the issue happens with only one data connection - while creating a pivot. Another data connection to the same cube works fine with him.
Also, the culprit data connection here is working fine with the other users.[/font]

You can download OWC from Microsoft website. That's an Office add-on. It looks like exactly the same in visual studio when you browse your cube.
