Can't Delete .trc trace files

  • I was experimenting with automatically scheduling a trace to run, and although I didn't succeed yet, I did manage to create a few .trc trace files that I don't need. When I try to delete them, I get a message that they "being used by another person or program", but I've logged off the server, and deleted the scheduled job.

    Ideas ?

  • If it says they are in use, that means the traces are still running. You'll need to turn them off.

  • There's no new entries in the trace file for the last hour, so they don't seem to be running. But if they are, how would I turn them off since I started them through t-sql ?? Maybe I have to wait the 8 hours until my stop time hits.

  • You need to stop tht trace first http://support.microsoft.com/kb/822853

and then you would be able to delete the files.
