cannot see any MSSQLSERVER services after install

  hi all,

  I just installed SQLManagementStudio_x86_ENU.exe - the free SQLEXPRESS database engine.

  I went through all that was asked in addition: Windows PowerShell and because I have Visual Studio 2008, the SP! for VS 2008.

  Yet, after installing these, and after installing SQL Server 2008 with no error messages whatsoever, I can't see any ms sql server related services in the service list.

  Anybody has any idea?

  sounds like you installed just the management gui and not the database engine itself:

  http://www.microsoft.com/express/database/
