Cannot open dbf file created in Visual Foxpro 7 or 9 in EXCEL 2010

  • Before upgrading to EXCEL 2010, I am able to open dbf files created in

Visual Foxpro 7 or 9 in Excel 2003.

I am not sure why after installing EXCEL 2010 I am no longer able to

    open the file.

I get the error message when I tried opening the dbf file in Excel 2010

"the file you are trying to open is in a different format than

    specified

    by the file extension"

I have tried opening the dbf file via the File Open method but it still

    cannot work.

If I copy the file to a lower dbf format (type fox2x) then I am able to

open the file in Excel 2010

Does Excel 2010 support dbf files created by Visual Foxpro 7 or 9?

  • Quick thought, try import the data rather than opening the file with "file open"

    😎

  • And at last, below the guide how to recover .dbf file, see steps...

1.Open the dBase command line from the Windows Start menu.

2.Log into the local dBase software with your username and password.

3.Click on the dBase command line section of the window that is open.

4.Type "dbf /recover yourDbaseFile.dbf" into the command line, where "yourDbaseFile.dbf" is the name of the dBase file whose tables are corrupted.

Press "Enter." dBase takes some time (ranging from a few minutes to a few hours, depending on the size of the database) to analyze and repair the file and its contents. You are alerted when this process is finished.
